As an educator, I want to have a positive influence on my students. Every student has that one teacher who made a difference in their life, who made them excited to come to class each day. I will strive to be that teacher for all of my students. I am committed to each of my students and their learning opportunities, I am eager to grow as an educator and learn from my students. As a teacher, I will adapt to each of my students learning behaviors and I am prepared to alter my lessons to students who may have a learning disability. I believe that all students deserve a chance at learning the same curriculum as their peers. I am prepared to collaborate with my students, other teachers and create opportunities in my classroom that relate to other subjects. I believe that as an art teacher, it is my job to help my students visually understand what they are learning in their other classes. I will do my best to always relate my art projects to my fellow teachers’ assignments. I am a strong believer in group work and learning from each other. John Dewey certainly influenced me with his theory of progressivism. I agree that students are best taught during social interaction, peer interaction, and social learning strategies. Which is why diversity will be a positive addition in my classroom. Students will learn and grow from each other. I will teach each student in a way that they are most comfortable learning. My students will learn from their mistakes, and grow from them. I am aware that each of my students is stronger in different forms of learning. In my classroom, each student will have the knowledge and skill to critically think about any artwork they come into contact with, inside and outside the classroom. I will teach my students the correct way to view art, and to understand the artist’s deeper meaning. I want my students to explore their character and confidence when creating their art. I will encourage my students to discover their artistic talents. Every student’s artwork is his or her own creative and personal piece. No student is a bad artist in my classroom. I believe that an art class should be stress-free and enjoyable for all students. I will strive to keep a safe, respectful, and relaxed environment for my students; no bullying will be tolerated in my classroom.
